Music competitions go online

Posted on: 25th May 2021

Our piping and clarsach competitions go online this year. Tune in to our Facebook page on 11 and 12 June to watch the live streams.

Clan Donald Lands Trust’s annual competitions for piping and clarsach will be taking place exclusively online for the first time this year. Both competitions will be hosted live from the museum at Armadale Castle and free to watch on Facebook. The live stream will be combined with filmed performances from each competitor.

The Donald MacDonald Cuach for Piobaireachd takes place at 7pm on Friday 11 June. Convenor Dr Angus MacDonald will host the competition live from the Museum of the Isles, Armadale Castle. Five world-class pipers will compete for the Cuach: Stuart Liddell, Callum Beaumont, Andrew Hayes, Finlay Johnston and Glenn Brown. Local piper Archie Maclean from Edinbane will open the competition, and the adjudicator is Dr Jack Taylor. Find out more.

The Princess Margaret of the Isles Prize for Senior Clarsach takes place at 2pm on Saturday 12 June. Convenor John Purser will introduce the competition live from the museum, accompanied by adjudicator Gillian Fleetwood. This year’s competitors are Karen Marshalsay, Pippa Reid-Foster, Fraya Thomsen and Loreleï Tochet. Find out more.

Both events are free to watch and streamed on our Facebook page.  Afterwards they will be available to watch again on Facebook and Vimeo, where you can also watch films of the 2018 and 2019 competitions.

We took the decision to move the competitions online this year due to uncertainties around Covid-19 restrictions and to enable everyone to take part safely.
