Transport yourself to the days of Bonnie Prince Charlie with thrilling costumed performances on the Armadale Castle lawn. With an impressive arsenal of rapiers, broadswords, claymore and other weaponry, experts from the Renaissance Scots Living History Association (RenScots) will re-enact scenes of combat from the Jacobite era and before. Find out the real stories which inspired the TV series Outlander, see the fearsome Highland charge and get up close to real weaponry. There’s also the chance to have a go yourself using realistic practice weapons.
There will be live demonstrations at approximately 12.30pm and 2.30pm. At other times, costumed re-enactors will mingle with visitors and you’ll be able to handle swords and other items. If you’re brave enough you can even have a taste a fight!
After you’ve enjoyed the performances don’t forget to check out the impressive collection of Jacobite memorabilia and weaponry in our Museum of the Isles – including basket-hilted swords, an impressive targe (shield) and some very special guns.
RenScots are a highly regarded team of re-enactment enthusiasts based in the USA. With a Director of History who is a doctorate level researcher their commitment to historical accuracy is second to none. We are delighted to welcome them to Armadale as part of their 2018 Highland Challenge tour.
