Isle of Skye holiday accommodation at Armadale Castle and Gardens

Stay with us in our Isle of Skye holiday accommodation at Armadale on the stunning Sleat peninsula, the seat of the High Chief of Clan Donald and the Lords of the Isles.

Sleat is arguably the most beautiful part of the Isle of Skye. With views over to the mainland as well as to the iconic Cuillin mountain range, our sheltered seaside position and mild climate provide the best of both Highland worlds: epic mountain scenery and soft, wooded glens between pretty crofting townships. It is no surprise that Sleat is a very popular holiday destination.

Our Isle of Skye holiday accommodation offers six self-catering cabins, one heritage apartment and one estate cottage all situated within the wooded policies of Armadale Castle. Our cosy, well-equipped four-star properties draw guests back time and again. Wake up to witness sunrise over the mountains of Knoydart, and watch local creel boats fishing in the Sound of Sleat. White-tailed eagles glide overhead, while native red deer graze in the fields nearby. You can spend your day wandering in our famous gardens and surrounding woodlands, visit the local grocery shop to pick up fresh supplies, and take an evening stroll to the pub for a supper of incredible food.

With recently refurbished interiors and ideal location near Armadale Pier, our properties are perfect for couples, families and groups. Many of our properties are also dog-friendly, and our wider estate is available for extended walks. A wonderful place to restore wellbeing, Armadale welcomes short breaks and longer stays throughout the year. Read more about the properties below.

When you stay at Armadale, you are contributing to the work of our charity, the Clan Donald Lands Trust. Thank you for supporting us.

From the start this accommodation was great. I needed to change our booked dates and they very kindly allow me to do so. We arrived on Tuesday evening, off the ferry, which docks less than 2 minutes drive away. The loadges are beautiful, well equipped, and the views are to die for. They beds are comfortable, the lodges themselves were cosy but spacious. We didn't have great weather so we couldn't make use of the terrace unfortunately but we still had a fabulous week. We were given a bottle of wine and milk which was very well received. Everything was clean and tidy. Overall it was a great stay! We had a couple of things which were disappointing, hut nothing drastic. We'd read on other reviews that when others had arrived with dogs that they were given dog beds, biscuits and water bowls, we didn't receive any of this. Dogs weren't allowed in the bedrooms either, which isn't very dog friendly. And we were asked to remove any trace of dog hair from the lodge, which isn't something you want to be doing when you've got an 8 hour drive ahead of you and have just had a nice relaxing holiday. I know some people don't mind cleaning after their holiday, but this is a personal gripe of mine. We did, however, do as was asked. Also, we read that we should have had a 10% discount in the gift shop ( we didn't know this until after we'd bought something) but this wasn't offered, even after showing our key to visit the gardens. (Which were absolutely stunning by the way). The free entry into the gardens was fabulous and I highly recommend going there, even if you aren't staying at the lodges, not sure how much it is usually though.

Have just checked out today of our short break at the castle lodges. The castle museum was closed its self but if the lodges are anything to go by then it surely will be amazing! Before travelling, Elizabeth was incredibly helpful over the phone and email while dealing with our booking. We arrived following the east guidance, directions and signs to find a beautiful picturesque view from the drive way of the lodge. Going into the lodge you immediately noticed the smell of how clean they were, carpets and upholstery very clean and a kitchen that provided you with everything you needed, even a bottle of wine and the makings of tea, biscuits, fresh flowers and goodies and a spare bowl and blanket for the dogs ? Small things that really made a difference were things like salt and pepper and cleaning products which usually aren’t included in self catering. The kitchen was fully equipped with a great range of pots, pans and crockery. The sofas and beds were incredibly comfortable. The woodland walks gave lots of exploring to our dogs who loved their experience too. They especially loved looking out of the big sliding doors watching the sheep in the field opposite. The gardens were well kept and area around very clean and looked after. The list of cleaning in the guest file really shows how well the place is looked after and cleanliness is to a very high standard which is very reassuring given the current pandemic. I’m already looking at when I can come back again!

It is a lovely place, with a great view! It is cosy and makes you feel like you were at home. ☺ We love the view from the lodge. Perfect for sunrises and watching the lake. It is also far from all the traditional tourists, which for us was lovely—easy access and close to a petrol station and store. ☹ The wood makes a lot of noise when someone decides to walk, so everyone would wake up if someone stood up and went to the washroom in the middle of the night. Additionally, the bathtub requires maintenance, we tried to keep the floor dry, but the water kept pouring out after showering.

Beautiful Location Loved the lodges the view is stunning and the lodge was spotless and so warm and comfortable had everything you would need. So lovely the extra touches a bottle of wine, milk and biscuits and even treats for the dogs. The only down side was the patio was not enclosed so couldn't open the patio doors as the dogs would get out would have been perfect to be able to sit on on patio looking at the magnificent view.

A lovely lodge set in a beautiful location A gorgeous place to visit and a stones throw from the Mallaig to Armadale ferry (book the ferry in advance). Views over the Loch are stunning even with low cloud. We stayed in the lodge Glencoe which was well appointed for a family of 5 though the double bed mattress could do with changing as the springs are past their best.It was wonderful to find essentials provided as well as wine, cakes and biscuits. Local and quality products are used which are excellent touches. The lodge was immaculate, nicely decorated, clean, fresh, warm and cosy. All in all, a lovely place to stay.It is a fairly unique cabin style on the island so if you're looking for something special, this is definitely worth the money.Future visitors might appreciate concessionary entry to the Armadale Castle to encourage them to make a visit given its proximity and that most tourist spots are a reasonable journey from here.

Lovely lodges Stayed here for.3 days whilst visiting Skye. Lodges were lovely and clean. The views were stunning and overall we were happy with our lodge. Only negatives were that the lodges were supposed to be ‘dog friendly’ but when we arrived there were signs saying no dogs in bedrooms. Not a problem for us as our dog doesn’t sleep with us but I know many people whose dogs do sleep with them so thought that was a bit misleading. Also, although views were stunning the grass around the lodges were uncut and my dog caught a couple of ticks from there. Nothing that impacted on our holiday but perhaps the upkeep could be kept better. We would definitely visit here again though.

Excellent retreat Very warm & cosy lodge for a family getaway from city life. Loved the view of Loch Hourn and sheeps. The lodge provide all amenities required to prepare meals for the family. There is a petrol station and a well stocked minimart 5 mins drive away. This stay also entities a complementary entry to the Armadale Castle & Gardens which is worth a visit

Brilliant spot for a relaxing holiday The lodge we stayed in was well equipped and very comfortable. The views are fantastic over to the mainland. The lodges are beautifully placed in the castle estate. We stayed 3 nights and walked everywhere with our dogs, down to the village and crisscrossing the estate which offers splendid views of sea and mountains. The staff are friendly and we loved the extra touches like leaving us dog bowl, biscuits and beds. A bonus is getting in to the castle grounds for free as this is well worth a visit. Thanks for a great time!

Beautiful location and comfortable lodge This place was just stunning. We arrived fairly late after a very long journey, the lights and heating were on and there was milk (and wine) in the fridge, a great start. The lodge is so well equipped, we didn't want for anything from cling film to a biscuit tin. The kitchen was fabulous - better than my own. The room were a great size and an uncomfy mattress was quickly dealt with by Elizabeth and Blossom - who were superb.Great to have a washer/drier after long wet days walking, and a shop and pub within walking distance. Shame about the ferries not running but everything else was just perfect to make for the break we so badly needed. Thank you

Wonderful Lodges with Stunning Views We have just returned from Skye having stayed at Armadale Castle Lodges. I was unsure of how it would be staying so far south on the island but the views from the lodges are beautiful, overlooking Mallaig on the mainland. Armadale is a beautiful part of the island. The ferry terminal is just along the road too and makes mainland access easy. Although there is a bit of driving to do in order to get to some of the main attractions on Skye, for me that was part of the appeal as the scenery is stunning and really is an integral part of holidaying on Skye. The lodges are spacious. We stayed in Glencoe Lodge with a family of 5 (kids aged 15, 13 and 11) and a dog. My brother’s gamily stayed next door in Sleat with a family if ) and a dog. Both lodges had ample space, were immaculately clean and had plenty of cooking equipment, appliances and utensils. Was delighted to see that we were provided with a small carton of milk in the fridge on arrival which was appreciated as we needed a cuppa. Tea bags, coffee, biscuits and dishwasher tablets were all provided. These little touches make all the difference in case you forget to bring them from home. There is also a large area of grass just outside the lodges which was ideal for the kids to play on. They loved having this space in the evenings. All in all, we had a wonderful stay at Armadale Castle Lodges, made all the better by the attentiveness and communication by our hosts. We will return to Skye again and this will be my first port-of-call for accommodation when we do.I couldn’t recommend these lodges enough.
